“I just know it needs to be done, and it doesn’t bother me,” Carhart told me, as we sat together in his new clinic, located at the Wildwood Medical Center in the Washington, D.C., suburb of Bethesda. The walls are adorned with art and posters championing female resilience. “Feminism is the radical notion that women are people,” reads one framed poster hanging on a wall. “Females are strong as hell,” says another.

“Those of us committed to reproductive freedom cannot rest while anti-abortion extremists work overtime to rob women of their health, lives, and autonomy.”

LeRoy Carhart, Statement to I-270 News, 10/17/2017

Live Action investigator 26 weeks pregnant, asks LeRoy Carhart what happens to the baby during his late-term abortion procedure. Carhart responds:

Carhart: It gets soft – like, mushy – so you push it through.
Woman: So what makes the baby “mushy”?
Carhart: The fact that it’s not alive for 2 or 3 days.
Woman: Oh. So I’ll have a dead baby in me?
Carhart: For 3 days, yeah. It’s like putting meat in a crock pot, okay? It gets softer. It doesn’t get infected or...
Woman: OK, so the dead baby in me is like meat in a crock pot.
Carhart: Pretty much, yeah … in a slow cooker.

In April 2016, an Independent US Congressional Panel met with a confidential informant, a former employee of the Carhart’s Germantown clinic, who claimed that Carhart is not fit to practice due to arthritis in his hands.

LeRoy Carhart, While Fighting for the Legality of Partial Birth Abortion, Testifies Under Oath About Dismembering Living Children:

Questioner: Are there times when you don’t remove the fetus intact?
Carhart: My normal course would be to dismember that extremity and then go back and try to take the fetus out either foot or skull first, whatever end I can get to first.
Questioner: How do you go about dismembering that extremity?
Carhart: Just traction and rotation [pulling and twisting]  grasping the portion that you can get a hold of ... the exposed portion of the fetus, pulling down on it … and rotating to dismember the shoulder or the hip or whatever it would be.
Questioner: When you pull on the arm and remove it, is the fetus still alive?
Carhart: Yes.
